The kitchen is really starting to look like a kitchen! Yesterday we went to the supplier to choose a marble or granite (no granite convinced us, so we will have to live with a softer marble). We particularly liked 4 marbles, left to right and top to bottom in the photo below: Flor di bosco (also called Etruscan grey), Sicily grey, Grigio carnico and Volakas extra (so, so much nicer in pattern than a Carrara! I’d have picked this instead of Carrara for other things if I’d have known it).

We chose a Flor di bosco slab from the block pictured below. This was the best match for our kitchen, which is very white, cabinets and tiles. Our floor is a greyish wood tile, so this very slightly warm middle grey marble with white veining I think is perfect. Pim also very much liked it. Sicily grey was too warm, Grigio carnico too dark and too cold, and Volakas extra indeed too white.

Later in the afternoon Pim installed the edge lightning, a strip installed in an aluminium profile which is sold for this purpose, covered by a diffusing plastic. It does hide the little LED dots and makes it much easier to clean. We were originally going to use Ikea units, but this is so much more streamlined, and also cheaper.

After dinner with Pim’s parents, they helped install the hood, which is very large! it was a very tight fit due to the chimney (?) hose, but they got it in after shaving a little bit from the edge of the wooden structure. We tried it on and it is very powerful and silent! very happy with it so far. I am too short to reach up there so luckily it comes with a remote.

Today Pim is starting with the floor! Took the pictures after cleaning up the room (except the dishwasher!) to be able to work on the floor which needs to be evened out, first fill the largest holes and then a leveling cement, before tiling.
