We’re now a bit stuck with the kitchen, waiting for the marble guy to install the counter top.
Since we had a massive drought, Pim has been working in the garden a lot. There’s very persistent thick grass, with very deep matted roots, that we have been fighting on and off throughout the years. Because of the drought it is easier than it has ever been to dig it up and shake off the soil. He’s also been mixing in the mountain of compost we had in one corner, and another mountain (of a total of three) were we piled up the soil we dug out to make the terrace.
I’ve also been thinking about the huge mess we had on the hall of late, and in the spirit of not allowing the perfect be the enemy of the good, we made a trip to Ikea, got a few little things we were missing for the kitchen, and also got two Hemnes units for the hall. While Pim worked further in the garden, I put them together, Pim attached them to the wall, and I tidied up the hall. I am SO glad we did this! It would have taken years until we could have put any serious energy into it (the walls are a mess, we still need to cover cables here, fix plaster, paint… we could even make some custom furniture, right?? right :D), but now with just one day’s work, it is a much tidier and welcoming place to come into the house. And no more shoes strewn all around the place!! <3
We also cleared up tools and materials (except some plywood and other boards that we don’t know where else to put) plus around two cubic meters of cardboard packaging from the dining room, hung the lamps and moved the dining table in! The room is not finished, it needs a marble windowsill, some plastering and another lick of paint, placing on the baseboards… but it is close and now in use, finally!! 😀 it is sooo wonderful to dine with the family with a view to greenery, I feel so blessed. And I cannot wait until it snows! The cats are absolutely having a blast with their new sunny platform with a view to the garden and birds 😀
And in other, very welcome news, Pim cleared the driveway/court (this is the third large container, I believe). I guess we should consider ourselves lucky that we had the luxury of all this space to keep literal tons of rubble until we had enough for a more economical large container instead of a multitude of smaller sidewalk bags. But yeah our court has been covered with rubble almost uninterruptedly for like 5 years. I am sure you can see it in many pictures all over this blog, let me just put here a couple of the cleared court and driveway! it’s so big, hahah!
This time the old kitchen also went into the container, finally, woohoo!
I have some pictures taken with the decent camera, but not here at the moment. Might add them later… these are all phone pictures.
