This is such a pretentious name for a room that I find it amusing!
Our living room is a long and narrow caterpillar divided in three sections. Particularities of old row houses! The entries for these three rooms are still all grouped under “living” since we still haven’t gotten around to the details.
The parlor is simply the first, street-side fragment. It has a large window onto the street:

We are working in sections and meanwhile our huge living room sofas and the TV are stuffed into the parlor, which is a small room. You have to wiggle into the room:
The parlor won’t be able to breathe until we are done with the kitchen and the living room proper…
