This room is half of the attic. State of things when we bought the house:
That structure to the left kind of closed the house from the attic, at the top of the stairs. We removed it and insulated the new roof. We also removed the chimney (and two fireplaces down from it).This is a more recent picture, from a slightly different angle and a different camera:
